DYSO Audition Information
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS & PROCEDURES
Musician Requirements:
In order to participate in the Delta Youth Symphony Orchestra, musicians must:
● Be currently enrolled in their school music program and/or currently take private music lessons.
● Be no younger than 12 and no older than 18 on September 1, 2024.
● Submit an online application
● Adhere to the attendance policy and other policies as outlined in the Musician’s Handbook.
Basic Audition Requirements:
SCALES
● Musicians must play one major scale
One octave up and down
Quarter note rhythm between 80-120 bpm
Must be memorized
PREPARED PIECE
Musicians must select either SOLO or EXCERPT:
● SOLO
Musicians may play 2-3 minutes from a prepared solo of the musician’s choice, without accompaniment. Musicians are encouraged to choose a piece that best demonstrates their level of playing. The degree of difficulty of the chosen work is factored into the judging, but the execution of the piece is equally considered.
Musicians must provide a copy of the prepared solo for the audition committee.

SIGHT READING
● All musicians are expected to sight-read a short 6-8 measure exercise.

The information collected in this application is used to help us communicate with you and plan for the season ahead, as well as used to report to funders about the reach of our programs, and to help with future audition outreach. Audition judges do not have access to your application and acceptance decisions are based solely on your performance ability.
